Smartlipo
At the Hunstad
Kortesis Center, we offer the only board certified plastic surgeon in the entire
Charlotte region performing the procedure. Dr. Hunstad and Dr. Kortesis
have extensive experience using the SmartLipo machine in excess of three
years. Dr. Hunstad has lectured about Smart liposuction as a visiting
professor at Duke University and in national telecast video conference
put on by the American Society for Anesthetic Plastic Surgery, open to
all plastic surgeons nationwide.
Very thorough Smart
liposuction can enhance skin retraction and give a dramatic pleasing
outcome. The patients are very gratified by the final appearance in
shape and contour they receive and are impressed with the significant
reduction in dress size and in the improvement in shape and contour.
Skin tightening with Smart liposuction continues to be noted for more
than three to sometimes six months following the procedure. Smart
liposuction utilizes a fine fiber that delivers multiple wavelengths of
laser light beneath the skin to help liquify the fat and vertically and
transversally tighten the skin. The connections between the skin and
the underlying muscle are tightened giving the skin a better adherence
to the underlying tissue and also tightened across the surface of the
skin literally shrinking the skin and improving the tone with skin
tightening.
SmartLipo is
performed in combination with tumescent technique, which truly minimizes
bleeding and also in combination with power-assisted liposuction, which
improves the sculpting technique and allows for a very thorough
liposuction with a very significant contour improvement and change.
Dr. Hunstad and Dr.
Kortesis are involved with a very groundbreaking use of the Smart
liposuction namely in treating cellulite with the newly available 1440
wavelength. This wavelength offers great promise in the isolated
treatment of cellulite either with or without liposuction.

The following patient is 29 years old. She underwent
Smartlipo with traditional liposuction to her full abdomen,
hip rolls and circumferential thighs. She received a
fantastic new contour with this procedure, losing cellulite
and 12 unwanted pounds.
*Prior to her surgery at our facility, she had breast
augmentation. She also has a scar from a previous C-section,
which we were able to use for her abdominal liposuction. |

Minimal Recovery Smart Lipo
MINIMALLY INVASIVE QUICK
RECOVERY SMARTLIPO
SmartLipo is the first and only
laser-assisted lipolysis system that offers a minimally
invasive procedure for the removal of fat. SmartLipo laser
lipolysis is a minimally invasive technique designed to
eliminate localized deposits of fat on the face and body of
patients. With our new technique, we are able to not only
remove areas of fat deposits from unwanted areas; we can
also tighten the surrounding skin in order to enhance the
overall contour of each person’s body. Our new state of the
art equipment provides the utmost safety and efficacy in
treating patients with excessive fat deposits. The patients
are extremely pleased with this new technology. These
procedures can be done easily within our state of the art
office facility in an outpatient basis and the patients are
able to return to their daily living without any difficulty.
The laser lipolysis permanently destroys the fat cells that
cause these unwanted areas and returns the body to the form
that you wish to achieve.
After a thorough
consultation in our facility, the patient leave well
informed regarding their particular case. Patients can have
this procedure performed in an easy outpatient setting with
minimal pain. The procedure is ideal for candidates who are
within great physical health, who exercise regularly, and
are within 10-25 pounds of their ideal body weight and has
areas of localized fat deposit that have responded poorly to
diet and exercise. With our procedure, the patient will be
able to have this performed while awake under local
anesthesia. The SmartLipo procedure works by placing a very
small cannula or two; containing a laser fiber into the skin
where the fat deposit is located. The cannula is slowly
moved back and forth while the laser inserts its energy on
the fat cells which causes them to be destroyed. The laser
itself also interacts with the dermis which results in
collagen accumulation and the shrinkage of the resulting
skin. Since the cannula is of ultra small size, this is a
very minimally invasive procedure that can be performed
under local anesthesia. The laser causes minimal bruising
due to the fact that it helps to coagulate small blood
vessels immediately on contact. This allows for a much
quicker recovery time than any conventional liposuction
procedure. Since general anesthesia can be withheld on
certain cases, the procedure is very safe and has very
minimal side effects.

Q. Who is a good
candidate for SmartLipo?
A. SmartLipo is excellent for
individuals who are healthy, and have small areas of
localized fat that have not responded to normal diet and
exercise routines.
Q. What body regions
can be treated with SmartLipo?
A. SmartLipo can be a great
adjunct to a number of traditional liposuction procedures.
It is ideal for localized areas of fat found on the face,
neck, breasts, abdomen, and/or tummy and lower extremities,
back, love handles, and arms.
Q. How many
treatment sessions need to be performed?
A. For most patients, each
individual area may be treated with one distinct session.
Each session may last around one hour approximately for each
area treated.
Q. Does SmartLipo
treats cellulite?
A. With our new state of the
art SmartLipo machine with our newest wavelength, we will be
able to treat cellulite and increase tightening around the
surrounding skin of the localized fat deposits. This will
result in improved body shape and a better overall contour.
Q. Minimal downtime?
A. The procedure is performed
as a minimally invasive outpatient procedure. This is done
under local anesthesia with minimal postoperative pain.
Patients are able to return to their normal daily living
without significant downtime.

A. There are number of
physicians who perform SmartLipo procedures daily.
Physicians that have been well-trained with use of the
SmartLipo system and have distinct surgical skills, able to
